My husband and I have known each other since high school, since we were sixteen to be exact, and some days those high school years bring out our silly nature. Take last night, where five minutes before 11 o’clock, and moments before I was sitting down to write this post, we were having a good game of play boxing. I was holding my own pretty well. I had taken a few fake jabs, I was feeling pretty confident, but then I had to go and break my finger.
Yep, in my wild and pathetic flailing around, his jab met my left hand and my pinky snapped. Never have I crumbled so fast, or screamed so loud.
A Clean break, a pretty splint, and a few weeks of just using eight of my fingers. Well, at least I have a good story to go with it.
Thankfully the day had brought about some good sewing time and a little fresh goodness before the drama set in.
When I opened the fridge at about 2 yesterday afternoon, I found a bowl of fresh strawberries and a container of mascarpone cheese sitting next to one another. The two actually sounded good enough together that I took them out and sat staring for a few minutes thinking of how to put them together.
Strawberries with mascarpone, brown sugar, and honey is not what I would call the healthiest treat I could share, but it is a very worthy indulgence.
Strawberries with Mascarpone, Brown Sugar and Honey
1/2 cup mascarpone cheese
2 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp honey
1 full bowl of fresh, sweet strawberries
Let the mascarpone come to room temperature. Mix in sugar and honey, and serve with the strawberries. You can also add in spices like cinnamon to use with apples, etc.
Since sewing or knitting will not be resuming until I get used to the splint and awkwardness of having my fingers taped together, I am excited to explore a new website that Imene recently shared. For months I have been hoping that someone would create a Ravelry for the sewing world, and I am keeping my fingers crossed that this will be it.
My Sewing Circle is a cool site that is designed to catalog and share sewing projects, as well as to explore how others use a particular fabric, or adapt particular patterns.
A new sewing site, some strawberries and mascarpone, and some time to catch up on my blog reading. Maybe a little finger break won’t be so bad after all.

so sorry gal! here's to a speedy recovery and to enjoying some forced down time.
sorry about your finger! But some how you will make the best of it…. your a go getter! hugs…..
yum, so sorry about your finger!!
Oh no! So sorry to hear about the finger. Thanks for the snack post. I have never had marscapone cheese…looks like a must!
Ouch! I hope the finger is better soon. The treat looks lovely though.
Ouch I hope you heal fast!! Take care my friend!!
Sorry about your pinky! On one of my first dates with my husband we were walking my dog on the beach and my husband started to play wrestle my dog in the sand— my 90 pound dog snapped his pinky in a matter of seconds— his pinky still doesn't straighten out all the way almost 7 years later. We often laugh about how it's a reminder of our first days together!
and that treat looks yummy!
I've been wondering for awhile if there would ever be a sewing ravelry type thingy. Off to check it out. Hope your finger feels better soon. No more boxing for a bit.
Lisa
Oh, no, Heather! Crazy. Heal fast!
Ouch! So sorry to hear about your poor finger! That is a good story though. I broke one of my toes play boxing with my brother, so I partially feel your pain. A finger would be much worse! Enjoy your unintentional rest, I'll be thinking of you.
Oh no, how mad is that? Hope your being pampered suitably and your little pinky mends quickly.
take and mascapone an strawberries….yum!!
Nina xxxx
OMG ouch! Been there done that! I hope it feels better soon. This is exactly why we use the Wii boxing now. I accidently gave my husband a black eye once, yes it was on accident!
you will miss those fingers sooo much! i just had to get around for two weeks without my middle finger due to mandolin cutting incident and am not so happy that it's back in better use. however, i am still typing without it. ha ha! it's funny how well your other fingers will learn to compensate. i think you're going to miss downward dog the most though. heal up fast!
as you can see from my previous post, my fingers don't type so well after all without the use of my middle finger… i AM so happy to have my finger back in better use!!!!
Oh you poor thing! But the strawberries look good…can't wait till July!!
Oh, no. So sorry to hear you broke it. Hope it heals well and that you find a way to enjoy yourself without those two digits for a bit. Off to check out the sewing site to see if I can find some inspiration. Thanks!
Oh dear…. though I must say I am glad to hear there are other very silly duos out there
Fast healing to you! And thanks for the sewing link… I am off to take a peek
Ouch! Hopefully the finger heals well (and quickly!). I'll have to try the marscapone recipe….we often eat our strawberries here with a Nutella/cream cheese dip that is totally easy and totally yummy (and obviously not healthy LOL)….
oooh, ow! I'm guessing your husband crumbled right along with you. I have a box of strawberries in my 'fridge that have been begging me to eat them. You've given me just the side I need to go with them. Actually, shizzknits Nutella sounds pretty good too. Thanks for sharing the sewing site…I'm going right over there to check it out.
isn't it funny to injure yourself doing something so silly! The sewing site sounds great!
Oh no Heather! I am going to tell this story to my husband, let it be a lesson to him!
I saw your invitation to the sewing site last night but haven't had time to check it out, maybe it should wait until after I attempt this Kids Clothes week challenge…
Hope you are feeling better and sewing again soon! At least you have strawberries to enjoy! xo
Oh dear Heather, hope it heals quickly:) I broke my finger a few years ago, I tried to do a handstand in the kitchen and as I went up, I heard snap and the rest is history:)
Hope you are sewing soon:)
How could something so completely adorable go so terribly awry?!? Chuckling about how it happened, even as I moan and cringe for you. Hope you can sneak some comfrey in there somewhere! Take care…
So sorry about the break~ but atleast their was playful romance involved
If its gonna happen…might as well happen that way, right!
Thanks for the recipe. I found marscapone on sale for $.99 the other day and bought 4 tubs of it. This recipe will definitely come in handy this week.
So sorry to hear about the broken finger. Only you could break your finger at 11 o'clock at night, write a blog post, and include a recipe. Get better Heather.
So sorry! I also feel bad for your husband – I imagine he felt pretty bad too! Speedy healing.
Ouch! I help it heals quickly.
lisa
That is totally something that would happen to me. My husband is constantly tickling me, and I keep telling him that my ninja reflexes are going to get one of us seriously injured one day! I hope that you heal quickly.
I signed up for Sewing Circle. I'm excited about this! I've been longing for something like Rav for sewing for awhile now too!
it's always fun until someone breaks a finger!!!! so glad that's all you broke….but so sorry you hurt yourself. take care of yourself and enjoy the 'break' from your normal routine.
Ohhh I felt your pain as I read this post Heather….having recently broken my little toe (now a have a complete pair of broken little toes) I know there is nothing worse!! Heal quickly. Perhaps more strawberries will help? At least there was a big amount of fun involved in the whole little tragedy.
Ah bummer on the pinky but certainly a great story!
It sounds exactly like something I would do. Hope it heals quickly! Looks like you may have some pinky exercises in your future.
P.S. I am crazy over your photos!
I'm so sorry about your finger. I hope you recover soon. I'm so happy about this sewing site. Isn't it great. The strawberries and mascarpone look so good. Please take care and feel better soon.
oh i'm sorry. my son whose 2.5 loves your pictures as do i.
Oh yum! oh dear about your finger! Oh yay about sharing the Sewing Circle link! Thanks and I hope your finger heals quickly, I can't imagine hurting my fingers I would have to have a crochet holiday. Take care
I hope your finger is feeling better soon. That is a good story to tell along with the break. The other week I was mandolin-ing (is that a word?) vegetables and gave my thumb a clean cut. No good but my friendly nurse friend stopped over—that's why there hasn't been any knitting around here lately. That marscapone recipe sounds delish!
oh dear! hope you enjoy a 'break' of sorts. and best wishes for speedy healing!
oh no! While playing around with the husband sounds like fun – broken finger not so much! Bet your husband feels bad and can make up for it with some help around the house while you rest up and peruse blogland. Take good care of yourself!
Ouch!! Hope it feels better soon.
i don't think i would have pegged you for a boxer. glad you were having fun while you broke it.
heal quickly.
Well, apparently I am not a good one, that is for sure. It was more of a pillow fight/boxing match, and my husband has made it clear that it will not be an activity in the future

Oh my, I cannot believe you broke your finger! Ouch!
I'm so pleased about My Sewing Circle…it should be a lot of fun.
I am completely sympathetic about your broken finger, Heather. My broken right hand has finally healed. Good luck and please know I am thinking of you. Broken bones are absolutely NO FUN, except the part when my husband had to do all the housework and wait on me hand in foot!!!!!
Ouch! I am so sorry that happened!! I finally made it over to my sewing circle last night. I have yet to add projects but at least I am there now, right?!
Oh no! Hugs to you.
Heather, that is awful (although youthfully, lovingly funny how it happened)! Thanks for the links and oh yum on the food combo.
Nicola
That's quite a story. A romantic 11pm boxing match:)
oh heather! I have been away from my computer all week–looks like I've missed a bit of action. I'm so sorry you lost your boxing match
Glad to know you have good use of the other 8 still. Sending healing wishes your way.
