With the magazine just a few short weeks away from going live, most of my creative energy feels like it is going into the projects that need to be completed, photographed and laid out. Yesterday, however, Jacob kindly reminded me that we were now fully into the holiday season and that we need to get our decorations up and going.
I was visiting Sarah’s wonderful blog yesterday, and I just fell in love with her fabric wreath that she created. It is festive, and fun and a great way to use up the scraps that we all have piled up somewhere. I have been drawn to the the tones of browns, cream, reds and sage green lately, and I dug through my scraps until I found a combination that resonated.
I love the fact that the boys are getting to a spot where they want to create holiday memories of their own, and they are taking the initiative to come up with projects of their own making. Jacob asked if he could help in putting a wreath together with me, and after a bit of searching we came up with the perfect project.
I say perfect because I am not sure if you could find an easier, or prettier, way to teach your child how to tie a bow. 56 times he tied those ribbons above, and then promptly walked right up the stairs and tied both of his shoes. No joke.
The ribbon wreath was a lot easier than I thought that it would be, the cutting is quick, and if you do not have a child doing the tying, than it is a nice afternoon project. If you do this with children, let’s just say that this may span a few mealtimes.
My brother and his beautiful family are joining us for Thanksgiving this year, and I am glad to have a few handmade decorations to put around the house. Handmade holidays always make for very special moments.

I have another fabric wreath I found over at Sew Mama Sew that I have been meaning to make. I'm glad you did it, it reminded me to get moving on my holiday prep! This will be the first year we all have stockings and a tree in our own little apartment! So much to do…
I love the ribbon wreath. So pretty for the holidays
hello. your creativity is inspiring. i keep meeting other colorado women bloggers these days. hip mountain and farm mamas….and now you! where in colorado are you? we are so spread out it seems, yet contained in colorado, which feels bonding to me.
yah! these are great projects for this week. we'll see if my little one can practice tying ribbons too!
I will have to go over and see about that one. You can never have too many
Thank you so much. I am located up in Fort Collins. We really are gathering together a wonderful online community of Colorado mamas, and I enjoy every minute.
Thanks for visiting my blog! I've read to a few of your posts, you have a lovely blog! Thanks for sharing ideas for christmas decorations!
They look beautiful – I love the colours you chose!
Wow Heather! I have a few foam wreath forms that I was going to glow some glittery leaves and berries to, but now I don't know about that. I might just have to make a scrap wreath instead!
That is so nice that you are having your brother with you for the holidays. I bet you will all have a BLAST!.
PS, great color choices….very fall-ish.
Thanks girl, I am really happy with how they both turned out
What a very special time you spent with your boys and the wreath looks great. It definately adds a festive touch to the Thanksgiving season.
The kid-tied wreath is a great idea! I'm a physical therapist in my other-than-baby life, and repetition of skills is big in therapy 🙂
both are beautiful! thank you for the links.

I have never made wreaths for Christmas. We mostly take our creative energy on our Christmas tree.
I have the perfect place for the wreath in the first link.
Thanks for the inspiration Heather!
Wonderful project. I love the saga of you/your children's learning experiences.
We used to always make holiday wreaths to hang on the door when I was younger–I think a fabric one might be in my future!
I love this! Looks so beautiful and festive. Thanks for a great post!
It's just so cute–and delegating the task to little hands is a great idea, too!
Love these! I was excited to see the first wreath, but the ribbon one that's stunning for how simple it is to create! Lovely..
OH, I love them! Fantastic colors!
excited about your new mag!
btw love your wreaths!
These are really great! How fun that you and the boys are making holiday decorations that will be passed down to them one day (they will have some lucky wives!)
I love the wreaths! And I will have to remember the bow one for when my boys are old enough to learn how to tie one; that much practice in one project is PERFECT for learning that skill! And if I wasn't already swamped in sewing for Christmas gifts I'd be whipping up a scrap wreath too, but there's just no way… Maybe later if I get on top of things…
Your wreaths are very pretty! What fun it is to create holiday treasures!
Thanks for the inspiration and those links!by the way,how can we subscribe to your new magazine?i have tried to look at your previous posts but didnt find anything. Im sure you have said it already but im a little unorganized these days 🙂 thank you!
Look at you! These are both so lovely! Thanks for linking to G+N 🙂
A lovely take on a wreath decoration – simpy yet effective.
Have a wonderful day,

Wow, I am so in love with that ribbon wreath! Beautiful…we may have to try that.
OH!I love these! I want to try them!
Love the ribbon wreath! I might take that project on with my 4 year old. He has been boycotting the velcro shoes lately so it would be lovely if he learned to tie his own laces!
Thanks for showing us your gorgeous wreath 🙂
I will post a link to be able to subscribe as soon as it is up, which will be December 1st. Thanks for asking 🙂
a wreath just says WELCOME…these are both beautiful and they look very doable. Thanks for sharing Heather.
Hooray! I'm so excited to do a fabric wreath (or two or five, haha) this year, but hoping to avoid a styrofoam base . . . hmm. wish me luck.
warm and fuzzy that's how it feels to have your children want to create and make memories with you.
what a special blessing!
