The Perfect Spring Blanket - Shivaya Naturals

The Perfect Spring Blanket

May 1, 2009

The weather lately has been gloomy and grey. Last week I was catching up on Soule Mama’s blog when I came across this wonderful family lap quiltt. I had some organic cotton that I knew would be perfect for the blanket, and plenty of Amy Butler fat quarters to make it work.

My family needed something bright, cheery, and for that matter warm to lift our spirits in these grey, drizzly days. Something to curl up under and read books, sip tea and maybe, just maybe nap under.

This blanket is simple, easy and fun to put together. It is a great use of extra fabric that might be lying around, and my favorite part, it can be taken outside in the nice weather and used for whatever warm weather activities arise. I took fat quarters and cut them down to 16×16. The blanket came out to be roughly 60×60. I used a wonderfully soft organic cotton for the back, and an organic cotton batting to make the blanket a nice weight for spring time.

My children are really starting to take notice of all of the handmade goodies that their lives are surrounded with. They comment with each new Spring napkin that pops up, every blanket or knitted sweater. They wear their handmade clothing with such pride, and now, finally, they are enjoying taking up the handmade life themselves. They are boys, and are forever in mud puddles, trees and soccer fields. But it is nice to know that when they come in from that wonderful play and enjoyment of the outdoors, that they love to find something creative to pass the time. The balance feels good, and I am loving this time with them.
