The perfect weekend

November 30, 2008

My family and I have spent the most wonderful and relaxing weekend together. Do you ever have one of those times where you did nothing special, you were just together and relaxed and it was just pure bliss? This weekend was so important for us to have. Our family is extraordinarily busy, and we rarely get a nice quiet moment all together. My husband travels most week days, and Shivaya Naturals keeps me going 7 days a week. We also choose to home school our boys, and that is a big part of our day as well. Normally I wake-up and get the day started, the kids and I go to the yoga studio where they play and I practice, and then it is home for our school time, or off to a museum, etc. We settle in at around 4 pm back at home, and I get dinner going and then I dye and skein until around 2 or 3 am every night. It is tough, but we make it work.

This weekend we chose to just come together and begin to get our hearts and minds into the holiday spirit. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving with two sets of close friends, and it was a great evening. On Friday we cleaned up and played games and took a nice drive through the mountains. Yesterday we did not even get out of our PJ’s! My husband worked on the sofa, I dyed some yarn and read to the boys. I did some knitting, and we did puzzles and just had fun. The last two nights we have all gone to bed really early, and it has been wonderful to just catch-up on much needed rest. Today we have gotten all of the holiday decorations out, and we are getting our house decorated, and we are preparing for the first day of advent tomorrow.

My only focus for the holiday is to spend time with my family, enjoy all that our area has to offer and to reconnect with the joy of this time of year. My children and I are so excited for this weeks amazing holiday events. We are traveling to Denver a few times this week for some great holiday lights and a museum celebration, and then Friday is one of my favorite days of the year. Our town holds a Girls Night Out every December, and it is so much fun! I always go with just my mom, and it is a really special night for us. They have caroling, a gallery walk, a christmas tree lighting, and just great energy all around. We pick a special place to eat, and it is a perfect time for us to connect with each other. Next weekend we have a great Kids Christmas celebration as well, and then we are off to the Parade of Lights in Denver. My husband and I were looking at all of the wonderful events that are around town, the great parties and celbrations with friends, and all of the magical moments ahead, and we were reminded that all we need for this season is to be open to the joy that it brings. Many years I have gotten so wrapped up in what I need to “do”, rather than just enjoying the moment. This year, I really want to just let go and have some fun.

On the knitting front, I am almost done with my Tudor Grace. I have loved knitting this pattern. It is serene for the mind, and the pattern just flows beautifully. I have about 5 more repeats and I then I plan to soak it and pin it out tonight. Hopefully I will have some pictures of it finished on Tuesday.

I hope that all of you had a wonderful holiday weekend, and that you enjoyed the time with family and friends. As we begin our time in advent, I wish all of you much peace and joy.

Happy knitting
