Shivaya Update

July 26, 2008

I am not sure how many people who are following what is happening with Shivaya are reading this blog, but I wanted to make sure that we covered everyone. Since we posted the pics yesterday of the first half of our new collection, we have had a lot of questions about where to buy the yarn, when the store will open, and what we plan to carry. So, here goes.

We open August 1st 2008 at 10 am EST
Our website is www.shivayanaturals.com

We will be carrying
Shivaya Bamboo Silk
Shivaya Alpaca lace
Shivaya Silky Merino
Shivaya Spun Silk 20/2
Shivaya hand painted sock yarn in superwash merino
Shivaya Merino Lace
Shivaya Tussah Silk
Shivaya Superwash Merino
Shivaya Worsted Merino and Silk Blend
Shivaya With a Twist
Shivaya Organic Worsted Wool
Shivaya Merino Rovings

We will also be carrying the full line of Off Hand Design Bags, Knitspot patterns, gorgeous hand crafted stitch jewelry, an organic skin care line, and one-of-a kind jewelry.

You can view the first half of the yarn/roving collection on our Flickr page today. Our stitch markers and jewelry will be available to view on Flickr on Monday afternoon, and the rest of the yarn collection will be available to view on Wednesday, July 30th.

We were planning to open the store to family and friends on July 24th, but we had a lot of people who requested that the store open for everyone at the same time, so to be fair, the first time it will open will be August 1st at 10 am EST.

Most importantly, we have a HUGE grand opening prize drawing. Seriously, you will not want to miss this one.

I will see you all on August 1st, and thank you so much for the amazing support that so many of you have given to Shivaya Naturals.

It is official; Shivaya Naturals will open it’s doors on August 1st.
This has been one of the biggest challenges that I have ever attempted. I have been in finance, a full time yoga teacher, and a doula, but nothing has ever challenged me (except raising two exceptional children), more than this expereince. I have not really slept at all in almost 10 days, I have been dying yarn, swatching yarn, knitting yarn, placing ads, creating ads, building a website, reskeining, tagging and just generally getting ready to open our doors for what seems now like eternity.

My life has had some extreme challenges over the past few weeks, but as I look at what I have created, who has stepped up to help and be behind me, and where this has all taken me, I am truly overwhelmed. Tonight, with still a ton of work ahead of me in the next two weeks, I have never felt more at peace. My husband has taken my hand and really helped me to see that creating this company was something that I had to do, no matter what the challenges or fears. My father has taken hundreds of pictures, and has dealt beautifully with a daughter who changes her mind at a drop of a hat. My mother has stood for hours helping me reskein yarn to make each strand beautiful and perfectly together. My sons have painted yarn, poured in dye, and have complimented me on every skein of yarn that has been painted or has made it’s way out of the pot. My friends have been more than I could have asked for, and I know how lucky I am to have each of them.

Today, when I woke up and recieved a special email from someone that I truly admire, I knew that I was doing the right thing with Shivaya. That creating a business model around the idea that one can be truly creative, while still being consciously aware of their impact on this world, is meaningful and has a place in today’s society. I feel so empowered that I have created something from scratch, that is uniquely me. More than that, I will always take with me the fact that in a really difficult moment, so many people stood behind me and helped me to make this happen. I believe that Shivaya will have a really positive impact, and I am so excited to see how it will grow.
