Fun Socks - Shivaya Naturals

Fun Socks

March 31, 2008

I recently was given the book Knitalong by Larissa Brown. The book is a great read; easy and fun, with a lot of good knitting history. The book explores women and men knitting together, both in history, and in the present day. It describes the passion for which many of us will join a knit along, and all of the benefits that sharing our knitting experiences can bring. There are a few patterns in the book that I am dying to cast-on. One porject that I did just recently complete was the Socks 101 pattern. What drew me to make these was the fact that the pattern used Manos Del Uruguay 100% wool, which is one of my all time favorites. I chose the Wildflower colorway and cast-on last week. I was done with the pair in less than a day, and was wearing them as slipper socks when the first Spring snow appeared. I do enjoy them, they are very comfortable, but they do wear down quickly. I am planning on dropping a needle size (I know, this happens with almost everything I knit), and seeing if they will wear a bit better. I have a lot of spare Manos in the stash, and these are a perfect way of using it up.

Your socks turned out lovely! I have some mittens (the Peekaboos) made out of Manos del Uruguay and they've pilled a lot and look a bit worn. I think it might be a worthwhile compromise I make for the softness of the yarn and the beautiful colorways.

I was just in the bookstore drooling over the book Knitalong. I am especially in love with the entomology mittens and the meathead hat (although I would call it a gnome hat!). I have Knitting for Peace which appears to be made by the same publisher (or is it authors/editors?). It is such a wonderful book to read.
